Stella's 1st Birthday Party!

Sunday we celebrated Stella's 1st Birthday party. The parenting handbook advises (or word on the playground is) that you should have one child per year the child is old. So that would mean we would invite one guest...but...rules are meant to be broken so we invited 11!  All in all it was an amazing day complete with picture perfect weather, delicius pizza, donuts from Balthazar, old and new friends, and a few surprises thrown in for good measure! I have captured a few memorable moments if you'd like to take a look!

Birthday portrait!

Sharing a birthday moment together.

We had this awesome facepainter, child wrangler,  and all over amazing person there to lend a hand. Kirsten, thank you so much!

Goodie bags consisted of slap bracelets, chocolate coins, candy dots on paper, bubbles, and helium balloons. Toward the end of the party three of the balloons floated away. Isabel was quite distressed (tears and all) so I told her we'd read this book later.
I made a cake from a stack of chocolate and sugar donuts. I got the idea here.
Getting ready to sing Happy Birthday. The wind was so strong we had to pretend to light the candle.

Stella went for the sugar donut...and ate THE WHOLE THING!

Father/ daughter moment!

To liven things up, Valentino gathered everyone around for an appetizer of cheddar cheese larvae and crickets.  I tried the crickets and they kinda tasted like sunflower seeds.

Valentino was the first to try the crickets

Isabel and Leora running off the donuts!

By the end of the day I told the gang to go fly a kite...and they did just that.
