MOM

Burning Man 2013 ended a few weeks ago. The week-long annual event, that is held in Black Rock desert in Northern Nevada, is an experiment in community, art, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance. We attended in 2011. It is hard to put into words the experience. Lights, music, art, more lights, more music, did I say lights?, costumes, people young and old. It is best experienced in person but if you cannot make the pilgrimage then photos will have to do.

This particular art installation is a favorite among Burners and is probably one of the most photographed on the playa. Artists, Laura Kimpton and Jeff Schomberg, have created the Large Word Series for the past 4 years now. Previous installations have included MOM, OINK, LOVE, and EGO. This series evokes different meaning for different people depending on their experience. My favorite is the MOM installation. For obvious reasons I guess. What other words would you like to see created? How about TRUTH? or WOW?...they might not even need to create new letters...just flim the MOM!

MOM, 2009, 16x36x4 ft. made of tin steel and recylced steel

OINK, 2010, 12x10x4 ft. Letters are made of steel and have bird cut outs. LED lights light the letters
LOVE, 2011
EGO, 2012
